1001 photography motive # 58 Market
I love them markets. That is not the average supermarkets that you get now adays in western societies that I am talking about.
The markets came up in discussion between me and Photojournalist Spencer Platt last weekend when he wisited Iceland and was asking about what I had been doing on my trip. The funny thing is that in my USA (I call them USA my way) images there are not many people to be seen in the images whereas in my Central America images you can find plentyful of people. Specialy at the markets.
Central american markets are colorful noisy and crowded but fun. I could not find much resistance in people when I was taking my photographs exept for one old lady with a turky in hand that called out no no and then banged me on the head with here fist and laughed. It was not hard so it was OK.
I guess the main reason for me not getting more attention was the way I hold and almost hide my camera. I do not lift it much up towards the face. Not if I can avoid it.
There are two ways of taking street pictures in my oppinion. The hidden way where you try to avoid any attention towards your self and blend in as much as you can or you can do it the cowboy way and make shure people know what you are doing. By this those that do not duc away have automatically granted their permission.
Which ever way you choose you still have to practice a lot to get the shots and foreget about using any thing longer than 70mm. My favorite is a 24 -35 mm
