20 years as a Professional Photographer
20 years as a Professional Photographer seems like a long time but it does not feel like it. The thought that these images here are taken 20 years ago surprise me much. It feels like only few years.Maybe it is a sign that I have had fun those last 20 years.
1.Mai 1989 I drove my red Skoda up to Akureyri in north Iceland to become a press photographer in stead of going to photography school. It turned out be a good move in all senses. I got to know a lot of people and among them my lifetime partner. This job was probably the best preparation I could get for what was to come.
I have been blessed by having the opportunity to be involved in lot of things regarding many aspects of photography. Of course there where some times that I was bored but I managed to find the amateur in me again and renew the fun part of being a photographer. Since starting out as a press photographer I have questioned every thing there is to be questioned regarding photography in my exhibitions at the same time as I have been working as a advertising photographer in the beginning with emphasis on product photography and effects then as time changed turning more and more to people photography.
In those 20 years Photography has gone through a lot of changes in the technical field and its been fun trying to keep up with all those changes. Going from the darkroom to Photoshop and computer took some time but ever since I started I have been following the developments in the computer field. I even managed to graduate back in 94 with computer generated images as a final exam. First in my school and one of the first Icelandic photographers to do so.
Still Photography has not changed much. It is based on the same principals as before. Technology alone does not change things in arts much. But it leaves us with more questions than before to deal with.
